Out of the Shadows

Lifeline North Coast will be marking World Suicide Prevention Day by welcoming the community to visit our Commemorative Wall at Lifeline Shop sites between 9am - 4pm on Thursday, the 10th September.

Every year we traditionally hold an “Out of the Shadows” event – a national suicide prevention walk held to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day. Normally this has been a well-attended and successful event where the community in both Grafton and Coffs Harbour have united to bring the stigma of suicide ‘Out of the Shadows’…and into the light. This has been a collaborative display of support and commitment to prevent further deaths by suicide and open community capacity to talk about issues surrounding suicide.

This year, whilst the community deal with the current health pandemic, we will commemorate “Out of the Shadows” by way of welcoming individuals, friends and families who have lost someone to suicide to, come together to attend a "Virtual Walk" where we will be online from 6am-7am and walk to remember those in our own way.

We also invite the community to visit our Lifeline North Coast sites to place a message of remembrance and hope on our Commemorative Wall. An important part of healing for survivors of suicide loss is by celebrating the life of their loved ones who died and grieving their loss. We would also like to welcome people who have survived a suicide attempt to join us and post their message of survival and hope. This will not be an opportunity to receive support, however it will be an opportunity meet the Lifeline staff and find out where you can. The Commemorative Wall will remain in place for the month of September. Hope to see you there.
